Context

German automaker BMW, which has been producing cars in China since the early 2000s through its subsidiary Brilliance , has seen its sales decline in the country since 2023. Its production volume fell from 729,000 units in 2023 to 628,000 in 2024 and 547,000 in 2025. Like its competitor Mercedes, BMW is struggling in China due to increasingly fierce competition from Chinese premium brands. The Bavarian-based carmaker therefore intends to revive its sales in China to maintain its market share in the face of aggressive competition. To achieve this, launching new mid-range and electric models, in line with Chinese demand, would be highly effective.
BMW is expected to unveil the extended version of its recently launched iX3 electric SUV at the 2026 Beijing Motor Show. BMW is also expected to present its facelifted 7 Series and i7 , as well as the new i3 electric sedan, which shares its Neue Klasse platform with the iX3.
