FCA’s objectives for Alfa-Roméo will not be reached
- FCA's targets for sales of Alfa-Romeo in the years 2017-2020 will not be met. The original objective of the manufacturer was to sell 400,000 Alfa-Romeo brand models in 2018. Then this target was postponed to 2020.
- Today, it is not clear how this new goal could be achieved, given that:
1 / only 50,000 Alfa-Romeo have been sold worldwide over the 6 months of 2017.
2 / only 53 000 Alfa-Romeo have been produced on the various Italian sites over the first 6 months of 2017.
3 / The rise in cadences of the recent models Giulia and Stelvio is less rapid and less strong than expected.
- Taking into account the slow rate of growth of the Giulia and Stelvio, the brand's projections for the full year 2017 stand at 100,000 sales or even 110,000 at best.
- In three years, from 2017 to 2020, the brand should therefore increase from 100,000 to 400,000 sales. How can we find 300,000 more sales, especially since the Mito and Giulietta may not have descendants?
- The product plan announces the launch of a C-segment SUV in 2018 and an E-segment sedan in 2019. That will not be enough to reach sales of 300,000 vehicles . In the best case, Alfa-Romeo could , if the announced plan is respected, sell between 150,000 and 160,000 cars in 2020.

Peugeot pick-up sold in Africa is a derivative of a Dongfeng pick-up

Peugeot pick-up sold in Africa is a derivative of a Dongfeng pick-up
- The PSA group has moved the commercialization of its new pick-up in the Maghreb and sub-Saharan Africa one year forward. It will be marketed as of autumn 2017 from assembly on the new Tunisian site of Stafim. This site will be able to assemble up to 1,200 vehicles per year, six per day.
- The model selected is a Peugeot rebadged Dongfeng brand pickup. Dongfeng is a partner of Peugeot in China through a JV and has become one of the main shareholders of the French manufacturer.
- The Dongfeng pickup, christened Rich on the Chinese market, is derived from a former Nissan Navara D22 pickup from the 1997-2005 generation. This model is equipped with a Nissan 2.5-liter diesel engine, developing 115hp and it is this same engine that will equip the new pickups that Peugeot has marketed as of 2017.
- The rebadging operation of a Chinese model from a former generation of the Nissan Navara is therefore a low cost operation, ie in order to be the least expensive possible. In terms of image however, the operation is not especially pertinent, and it is perhaps for this reason that this model will not be exported to Europe, nor indeed to other continents.
- This Peugeot pickup will have the heavy task of succeeding the historic 203, 403, 404 and 504, pick-ups, the last of which was sold in 2005 in Nigeria. Pick-ups represent almost 10% of the African market.

Inovev predicts sales of 30 000 to 50 000 per year for the new BMW 6 Series GT

Inovev predicts sales of 30 000 to 50 000 per year for the new BMW 6 Series GT
- BMW has just stopped producing the Coupe 6 Series, having already suspended the Gran Coupé and Cabriolet variants . They are still produced but in small quantities and their production should cease before the end of the year. On the cumulative first 5 months of 2017, only 4 500 units were assembled in Dingolfing (Germany), against 16 000 units in 2016 and 18 000 in 2015.
- The 6 Series Coupé, Cabriolet and Gran Coupé will in fact be replaced by the future Series 8 announced for 2018 which will be available in all three bodies and still produced in Dingolfing.
- But BMW did not want to leave a gap in its range, and this month unveiled a new generation of Series 6 that is actually the replacement of the 5 Series GT, a five-door sedan derived from the four door 5 Series. This new model is called 6 Series GT. It uses the same “recipe” as the 5 Series GT but applied to the 5 Series launched last year.
- With its 5.09m long, 1.90m wide and 1.54m high body, it is far from the elegant and low-profile line of the 6 Series Gran Coupé, but the progress is notable compared to the 5 Series GT.
- Using the CLAR platform and assembled at Dingolfing, the new 6 Series GT is offered with 258hp 4-cylinder 2.0 turbo gasoline, 340hp 6-cylinder 3.0 turbo gasoline and 265 hp6 cylinder 3.0 turbo diesel Engines.
- Inovev expects between 30,000 and 50,000 sales per year of this new 6 GT Series.

Inovev predicts sales of 50 000 per year for the Seat Arona
- The Spanish brand SEAT (a subsidiary of the Volkswagen group) has unveiled its B segment SUV, the Arona, which could be considered as the SUV version of the Seat Ibiza, with which it shares the MQB-A0 platform, which is also used by the new Volkswagen Polo presented a few weeks ago. The Arona, which measures 4.14m, is SEAT’s second SUV, after the launch in 2016 of the Ateca (C segment) and before the launch in 2018 of its large (D segment) SUV whose name is as of yet unknown, and is built on the same platform as the VW Tiguan and Skoda Kodiaq.
- In 2019, Seat will have three SUVs on three different segments, as do Skoda and Volkswagen. But it is still Audi that will have the largest number of SUVs within the Volkswagen group, with seven different models (from Q2 to Q8).
- The Seat Arona will be manufactured on the Spanish site of Martorell. Inovev expects 50,000 sales of Arona each year, while the Ibiza sales volume is announced as 175,000 per year. The Seat Ateca will sell at around 100,000 units in 2017, based on sales in the first five months of the year.
- The Seat Arona is equipped with the following engines: a 3-cylinder 1.0 TSI gasoline of 95hp and 115hp, a 4 cylinder 1.5 TSI gasoline of 150hp and a 4 cylinders 1.6 TDI diesel of 95hp and 115hp. The Arona intends to compete with the Renault Captur, Peugeot 2008, Nissan Juke, Opel Mokka, Opel Crossland, Hyundai Kona, Kia Stonic, Citroen C3 Aircross, Fiat 500X, etc ...

Inovev predicts sales of 160 000 per year for the BMW X3

Inovev predicts sales of 160 000 per year for the BMW X3
- BMW has unveiled the new generation of its X3 SUV (D segment). This new generation is lighter than the previous one, thanks to the use of the CLAR platform used by the recent 5 Series, 6 Series and 7 Series. This platform was designed for all BMW-rear wheel or all-wheel drive vehicles . It will therefore also be used on the future 3 Series, 4 Series and 8 Series as well as on the future X4, X5, X6 and X7 SUVs.
- The new X3, which is using the engines of the current generation, will be manufactured as previously on the US site in Spartanburg, South Carolina, alongside the X4, X5, X6 and future X7, at a rate of 160,000 units per year.
- The current generation was launched in 2010 and will be removed from the brand catalog in November 2017, therefore having a seven-year life cycle. The X4 coupe version will be replaced in 2018 (its life cycle will therefore not exceed four years). The new X3 will compete with the premium D segment SUVs, such as Audi Q5, Mercedes GLC, Volvo XC60, Jaguar F-Pace, Porsche Macan, Alfa-Romeo Stelvio, Lexus NX and DS 7 Crossback ...
- In 2016, BMW sold 155,000 X3, 151,000 of which were manufactured in Spartanburg, along with 165,000 X5s, 56,000 X4s and 38,000 X6s. The Spartanburg site, which is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year, produced 410,000 SUVs last year, 115,000 of which were sold in Europe and 105,000 in the USA.
