Renault will produce the « Symbol » in a new plant located in Oran

- Discussions have been ongoing for months between Renault and the Algerian government, and eventually on December 18th, during an official visit of François Hollande, president of France, Renault has confirmed its commitment to sign an agreement for the establishment of a plant in Algeria.

- Jean-Christophe Kugler, regional director of the group, signed the agreement with the Algerian Minister of Industry. The Algerian government will hold 51% of the capital, the remaining 49% being owned by Renault. The new plant will be located in Oran (the second largest city of Algeria) and have an capacity of 75,000 units per year at the begining. For the moment, only one model will be produced: the Renault Symbol, which is actually the new Dacia Logan.

- The establishment of this plant should strengthen the position of Renault in the country where the French brand is already a leader in a growing market (450 000 sales in 2012). The plant production should be entirely dedicated to the Algerian market unlike the factory in Tangier (Morocco) which exports 90% of its production.
