GM and PSA: towards a share of plants?

GM and PSA are carmakers with high overcapacities in Europe (along with Ford-Europe, Honda and Fiat-Chrysler). GM’s plant utilize 65% capacities and PSA’s plants 64%.

Due to sharp decline in European markets, both PSA group and GM group have been forced to cut production in Europe
Consequently both groups have overcapacities.
Hence the idea came up to get closer to optimize their production capacity.

In both groups the plants that have suffered most from the crisis are the Spanish plants (Vigo for PSA, Zaragoza for GM)

Conversely the productions of two plant PSA Poissy and Trnava, were increased significantly in recent years, thanks to the start of the Peugeot 208, which is not produced in Spain (unlike the 207 was).
Poissy plant also benefits from Citroën C3 transfer from Aulnay, and the success of the DS3.

No production increase can be observed in any European GM’s plant.
