Infiniti unveils its next European produced vehicle
- The Infiniti Q30, whose production in Sunderland (UK) will start early 2015, will enable the Nissan luxury subsidiary to to break into the premium compact sedan segment (segment C), against the Mercedes A-Class, BMW 1 and Audi A3. This segment is growing with 400,000 cars produced in the first seven months of 2013 against 300,000 in the first seven months of 2012 (+33%). The Q30 expands the range and scope of the Infiniti which has sold less than 3,000 vehicles in Europe in 2012.
- Its world premiere Frankfurt Motor Show in September 2013, foreshadows the concept of the first Infiniti model manufactured in Europe. The other Japanese premium brand presence in Europeis Lexus (Toyota's luxury subsidiary) but this carmaker does not manufacture vehicles in Europe.
- The Q30 does not share its platform not with Nissan models but with the Mercedes A-Class.
- The estimated production capacity for the Q30 are of 60 000 units per year. To this end, Nissan has received approval from local authorities to expand its plant in Sunderland. The site is already the largest in the UK, and one of the largest in Europe, with a production capacity of 500,000 vehicles per year (the Qashqai, Juke, Note, Leaf are currently manufactured at this site).
