- Like most major carmakers, Volkswagen explores, through its "Blue Motion Technologies" program, the different modes of propulsion available : combustion engine, electric engine, hybrid engine.
- After the Touareg, the Volkswagen Jetta is the second to turn towards the hybrid solution. The brand has installed two engines under the hood: a four-cylinder petrol 1.4 TSI 150 hp and an electric block of 27 horse power. Between the two, a clutch allows under certain conditions to drive in 100% electric mode.
- Above the rear axle and encroaching slightly on the boot volume, a lithium-ion battery can run in electric mode, but on a very small distance: 2 km and a maximum speed not exceeding 70 km / h .
- This set allows Volkswagen to display an average consumption of 4.1 l/100 km for emissions of 95 g CO2/km (manufacturer data). Despite an increase in weight, the Jetta Hybrid is below the threshold of 1,500 pounds.
- Externally, few differences. Price: from 31,000 euros, while a Toyota Prius is priced EUR 28,000. A rechargeable hybrid version (plug-in) is expected in the short term. This version will be even more expensive.
- This model will be manufactured with all other Jettas in the Mexican plant of Puebla. The primary market for the hybrid Jetta will be the U.S., the world's second largest hybrid market behind Japan, but much more open to competition.
