The future Opel Meriva and Citroen C3 Picasso will be produced in Zaragoza
- The PSA Peugeot Citroën Group and General Motors announced that they would produce the next generation of their B segment minivans in the GM plant in Zaragoza, Spain.
- These vehicles (Citroën C3 Picasso and Opel Meriva) will share the same platform and the same engines, Opel is responsible for the design of both models and PSA Peugeot Citroën is responsible for providing gasoline and diesel engines.
- In 2013, the production of the C3 Picasso had overtook that of the Meriva
- Marketing of both models is scheduled for late 2016. New announcements on common projects will follow later on.
- PSA currently assembles the Citroen C3 Picasso in its Slovakian plant in Trnava, which also produces the Peugeot 208, and could in order to compensate either produce the 208 (currently manufactured in Poissy) or manufacture the Citroën C3, based on the same platform form
- Currently Opel assembles the Opel Meriva on the Spanish site of Zaragoza, but also the Corsa and will soon produce Mokka from 2014.
- The B segment minivans saw their market share decline in recent years due to competition from the SUV segment B (Nissan Juke, Opel Mokka, Renault Captur, Peugeot 2008).
