The Brazilian passenger car market has declined by 3.4% in 2013

After continuous growth between 2003 and 2012, the Brazilian passenger car market fell by 3.4% in 2013 to 2 755 260 units. However, commercial vehicles sales have increase by 4.3% to 991 260 units, thereby reducing the market decline on all vehicles to only 0.9% (3 746 520 units).

Nevertheless, manufacturers are optimistic about the future of the Brazilian automobile market as it shows potential for great development, based on a low motorization rate (less than 150 cars per 1 000 inhabitants) and a steady enrichment of middle classes.

It should be noted that in 2013, three countries of the BRIC (Brazil, Russia, India) have seen their car market decline.

In 2013, the Fiat-Chrysler Group has remained the leading manufacturer in the Brazilian market (22% market share for PCs), in front of the Volkswagen group (20%) and General Motors-group (20%). Other manufacturers are clearly far behind. However, the good progress of Ford (9%), Renault-Nissan (8%) and Hyundai-Kia (7%) should be noted.

The Volkswagen Gol was the best selling car in the Brazilian market in 2013, with 255 070 units (9.3% of the car market). This model has been leading on the Brazilian market for 27 years, succeeding to the Beetle which had the same success.

In 2014, the ANFAVEA expected an 1% increase of the Brazilian market to 3.8 million vehicles.
