Citroen unveils its new city car the C1
- Citroën has unveiled the second generation of its C1 city car from segment A, which will be produced as of the summer of 2014 in the Toyota-PSA plant in Kolin, Czech Republic, alongside the new Peugeot 108 and Toyota Aygo .
- Unlike the small Peugeot, the Citroën will not change its name. Nevertheless, it replaces a model produced at more than 760 000 units between 2005 (launch date) and 2013, slightly less than the Peugeot 107 (790 000 units) and a little more than the Toyota Aygo (740 000 units) over the same marketing period.
- Produced in both a three and a five door model, unlike its main competitor the new Renault Twingo available only in a five door version. The new Citroën the C1 differs from the Peugeot 108 in the design of the front of the car.
- The C1 (like the 108) will be available only in a petrol version with two 3-cylinder engines a 1.0 from Toyota and a 1.2 from PSA Peugeot-Citroën. These models follow the general trend of abandoning diesel vehicles on segment A (following the new European regulations on gas emissions).
- Inovev expects a production volume of nearly 100 000 units per year for the Citroën C1 (three and five-door versions) .
- The equivalent model by Toyota (new Aygo) is expected to reach a production volume of around 100 000 units per year, like the Peugeot 108. We must remember that the Kolin plant has a current production capacity of 340 000 vehicles per year.
