The latest from Renault-Nissan at the Moscow Motor Show

The Moscow exhibition is being held at a time when Russia is recording a sharp drop in its auto market. In the first seven months of 2014, the Russian market (PC + LCV) fell by 10% to 1.4 million units. The leader of the Russian market is Renault-Nissan (and its subsidiary AvtoVAZ), whose market share has overtime reduced to 30.4% of local registrations (15.7% for AvtoVAZ, 7.9% for Renault and 6.8% for Nissan) but has nevertheless some novelties to present during the show.

AvtoVAZ presented the Vesta sedan and X-Ray SUV, both from segment C, that are to be marketed within a year. The Vesta will gradually replace the Priora (restyled at the same show) whose sales will reach 52 000 units in 2014 (and up to 172 000 units in 2008). It is based on the platform of the Renault Megane and not on that of the Logan. The X-Ray is based on the Renault Duster, which is also the platform of the Logan (B0 platform). The X-Ray may reach a higher volume than the Renault Duster (who's sales will reach 85 000 units in 2014).

Renault unveiled the new generations of the Logan and the Sandero (segment B) that have already been marketed in Europe for a year and a half. The Logan should reach 53 000 units sold in 2014, while the Sandero will reach 58 000 units.

Nissan introduced the Datsun Mi-Do (B-segment), which is a hatchback version of the trunk sedan On-Do (50 000 units in 2014), itself derived from the Lada Granta. The Mi-Do will compete with the Kia Rio (80 000 units in 2014), the Lada Kalina (70 000 units) and VW Polo (60 000 units). Nissan also introduced the Nissan Terrano SUV (segment C), which is a rebadged Renault Duster, already marketed in India, but whose sale volumes will be less than those of the current Renault Duster and future Lada X-Ray.
