- Since 2009, the overall Russian car production has been on the rise. Admittedly, in 2013 and 2014, the automobile production volume of Russia declined somewhat (-1.2% in the first 7 months of 2014 after falling by 2.1% in 2013). The decrease in production is still lower than that recorded by registrations (-10% over the first 7 months of 2014 after falling 5.4% in 2013), in a country where almost 100% of the vehicles manufactured locally are sold on the local market.
- The reason for this gap between production and registrations is explained by the fact that the Russian government has decided to limit the number of imports into Russia and manufacture more new models in Russia (including foreign vehicles) . Geopolitical tensions over Ukraine have only accentuated this policy.
- Imports have thus decreased 30% over the first 7 months of 2014 and the phenomenon is still accelerating. In 2013, imports had declined by 10% compared to 2012. As a result, production is expected to fall by only 5% in 2014.
- Based on a more modest decline of the Russian market in 2015 and the continuation of the sharp drop in imports, Inovev provides a 12% increase in production in 2015. It could even exceed the level of 2012, thanks to the arrival of several new models on local assembly lines, like the Ford Fiesta, Nissan Sentra , Nissan Qashqai, and Datsun Mi-Do.
