The Ford Craiova plant is running low until the arrival of the future Ka

The Ford plant located in Craiova (Romania) is currently running at 50% of its capacity until the arrival of the future Ford Ka. In fact, the only model that is currently manufactured in this factory is a segment B MPV namely the B-Max which currently hasn't met its expected success. It has sold at only 45 753 units in the first ten months of 2014 (for a production of 45 876 units). Ford will not reach more than 50 000 sales this year, which represents half of the manufacturer's objectives for this model.

The B-Max sold only in Europe competes with SUVs from the B segment, such as the Renault Captur, Peugeot 2008 or Opel Mokka. It was launched at the time the compact MPV market collapsed (Renault Modus, Opel Meriva). Its sales figures have only reduced since its launch in 2012.

The plant in Craiova, could however see its production volume increase with the launch of the replacement for the Ford Ka that will be produced at this site starting from 2016 at a rate of 65 000/75 000 units per year according to Inovev.

This future urban car (segment A) will no longer be designed and produced under the Fiat umbrella (unlike the current version made in Tichy), but will once again become a 100% Ford product, such as the first generation launched in 1996. The future Ka could be like the 4-door version sold since last summer in Brazil.
