Mazda unveils its SUVs from segment B: the CX-3
- Mazda’s current range consists mainly of three sedans : Mazda 2 (segment B), Mazda 3 (segment C) and Mazda 6 (segment D), of two MPVs : Mazda 5 (segment C) and Mazda 8 (segment D) ; of three SUVs : CX- 5 (segment C) CX-7 (segment D) and CX-9 (segment E), alongside the MX-5 roadster and the BT-50 pickup . Together all these vehicles reached more than 1.3 million units manufactured in 2013.
- To extend its range of SUVs towards lower segments (segments that are currently experience high growth worldwide), the Hiroshima manufacturer unveiled its CX-3 SUV from segment B.
- 4,27m long, 1.76 wide and 1.55 m high, the CX-3 is based on the platform of the recent Mazda 2 (named SKYACTIV). This new SUV will compete with the the Renault Captur, Nissan Juke, Fiat 500X, Opel Mokka and Jeep Renegade.
- The new CX-3 has a 2-liter petrol engine with direct injection 120hp already found on the Mazda 3 and Mazda 6 (and CX-5) and a diesel engine of 1500 cc 105hp already available on the Mazda 2.
- Produced in Hiroshima, Japan, the CX-3 has global ambitions. It will be launched in Europe in June 2015. Mazda aims to sell 200 000 per year, knowing that the CX-5 has sold about 300 000 sales in 2014 (the US market having a larger demand for SUVs from segment C more than SUVs from segment B).
