Assessment of production in Spain (PC+LUV) for the first 6 months of 2015
- In the first half of 2015 production (PC + LUV) in Spain reached 1.41 million units, representing a sharp increase (+ 22%) compared to the same period last year. Production of passenger cars (PC) increased by 24% to 1.19 million units and those of light commercial vehicles (LUV) grew by 12% to 222 000 units.
- By group, VW remains the largest producer operating in Spain, thanks to Volkswagen and Seat brands, with 388 000 units produced (+ 8.6%), ahead of Renault-Nissan (+ 23% to 283 000 units), PSA (+ 15.8% to 264 000 units), GM (89% to 240 000 units) and Ford (+ 5.5% to 162 000 units). The biggest increase is to be credited to the GM group, with the arrival of the Opel Mokka on Spanish assembly lines and the new Corsa launched at the end of last year. But the Renault-Nissan and PSA groups also performed well, driven by the success of Renault Captur and the arrival of Renault and Nissan Pulsar Kadjar, as well as the progression of the Cactus C4 which will probably reach the 100 000 annual unit threshold in 2015.
- By model, the Volkswagen Polo remains the most produced car in Spain (+ 12.9% to 164 000 units), ahead of the Opel Corsa (+ 29.3% to 122 000 units), Renault Captur (+ 9.3% to 116 000 units), Opel Mokka (88 000 units) Seat Ibiza (+ 7.8% to 78 000 units), Seat Leon (+ 7.4% to 77 000 units) and Renault Megane (+ 3% at 76 000 units). More generally, the Spanish production took advantage of the restart of not only the European market but also the Spanish market which helped sell 120 000 more vehicles in the first half 2015 compared to first half 2014 (thanks to the PIVE plan).
