Assessment of Production in Mexico (PC+LUV) for the first 6 months of 2015
- In the first half of 2015, production (PC + LUV) in Mexico reached 1.79 million units, an increase of 9.6% compared to the same period last year, when the volume didn't exceed 1.63 million units. The production of passenger cars (PC) increased by 14.7% to 1 million units and those of light trucks (SUVs, minivans, pick-up) increased by 3.8% to 790 000 units.
- Mexican production has benefited not only from the strong results in the US market towards which it exports massively but also the arrival of new manufacturers like Mazda and Honda. Other manufacturers are implementing themselves in Mexico such as Audi and Mercedes ( these new plants will launch in 2016 and 2017).
- In the first half of 2015, the production of PCs was more efficient than that of light trucks as the arrival of Mazda and Honda resulted in the start of production of Mazda 2, Mazda 3 and Honda Jazz, which was not at the expense of other models produced in Mexico, simply because these models were already marketed in North America but imported from Japan.
- By group, Renault-Nissan remains the leading Mexican producer (+ 2.0% to 394 000 units) in front of GM (-1.7% to 340 000 units), FCA (+ 3.1% to 257 000 units), VW (-0.2% to 247 000 units) and Ford (+ 1.4% to 236 000 units).
- By model, sedans monopolize the first three places: VW Jetta (+ 4.8% to 208 000 units - including 67 000 exported to the USA), Ford Fusion (+ 5.9% to 161 000 units - including 132 000 exported to the USA), Nissan Sentra (+ 13.9% to 141 000 units - including 106 000 exported to the USA), ahead of two full-size pickups: Dodge Ram (+ 2.4% to 120 000 units) and Chevrolet Silverado (-1% to 118 000 units).
