Overview of the Spanish Passenger Car market in 2015

 

The Spanish car market for Passenger Cars increased by 20.9% in 2015, reaching a volume of 1.03 million units. This is the third year of growth after the fall of 2012. Despite the three years where we saw the Spanish market gradually restart, thanks to PIVE planes (introduction of scrappage schemes), it is still far from its pre-crisis levels (1.6 million in 2007).

Segment C (43% market share) is the largest segment in this market, ahead of Segment B (34%). By body type, sedans accounted for 54% of the market (down three points) and SUV 23% (up three points).

The Volkswagen group (22.7% market share, + 16.1%) is the Spanish market leader, ahead of the  Renault-Nissan group (17.2% market share, + 25.6%). The largest increases were recorded for Premium carmakers, Korean carmakers, and the FCA and Renault-Nissan groups that benefited from a fresh line of popular products.

The ten best-selling models in 2015 were: Seat Leon (33 268 units), Seat Ibiza (31 376), VW Golf (29 212), Dacia Sandero (25 339), VW Polo (25 127), Nissan Qashqai (23 832), the  Renault Clio (23 019), Opel Astra (20 748), Opel Corsa (20 724) and Peugeot 308 (20 524). The VW group ranked _ four models in the top 10, the Renault-Nissan group ranked three.
