Algerian car market collapsed in the first half 2016

Algerian automobile market collapsed in the first half 2016, compared to the first half of 2015, following the new auto import rules imposed by the Algerian government (new licensing).

Sales of new cars fell by 68% in first half 2016, to 53,356 units, which leads to think of a car market of less than 90 000 vehicles on the full year 2016, down 66% compared to 2015, (when 265,000 new vehicles have been registered).

As a consequence of this foreseeable market collapse, the number of active dealers on Algerian soil was halved. They decreased from 80 down to 40.And some dealers who survived the collapse experience great cash difficulties, as their sales fell by 80% or even 90% in one year. They will likely have to permanently stop their activity in 2017, except if succeeding to transfer part of their activity to the production of spare parts.
