The Tesla “Model 3” was absent at the Paris Motorshow
- While its new “Model 3” (100% electric D-segment sedan vehicle) is expected to be sold in a year and that over 300,000 pre-orders have already been said to be recorded for this model, Tesla has not exposed at the 2016 World Paris Motorshow this model aiming at reaching a high volume of sales.
Knowing that France is the first country of purchase of electric cars in the European Union and given that the next edition of the Paris Motorshow will take place in October 2018, one year after the start of “Model 3”’s introduction to the market, it was expected to view the Model 3 at the 2016 Paris Motor show, especially as the Model S and Model X are exposed.

- Regarding totaled global sales of Tesla, in the first half 2016, Tesla sold 29,907 cars (it had planned 39,000) and produced 33,895 cars (it had planned 42,000). Tesla said wanting to sell 50,000 cars in the second half of 2016 and 80 000 throughout the year.
- Inovev forecast of total production of Tesla (all models altogether):
- 2018 : taking into account a progressive start of the production of “Model 3” and likely cancelation of some of the pre-orders, Inovev expects a production of 175 000 Tesla vehicles broken down into 60 000 “Model S”, 30 000 “Model X” and 85 000 “Model 3”.
- 2019 and 2020: as the competition for “Model 3” will not arrive before 2020 (year when several carmakers will launch their own D-segment electric models), Inovev anticipates a continuation of the growth of the production of the “Model 3”, leading to an overall production of Tesla of more than 200 000 vehicles /year.
- It is to remind that Tesla has a plant in California (Fremont) with a capacity of 500,000 vehicles per year and another plant in the Netherlands (Tilburg) with a capacity of 20,000 vehicles per year.
