The US market of electric and plug-in vehicles in 2016

 

In 2015, the electric vehicles (BEV –Battery Electric Vehicles- and PHEV -Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles-) totaled in the US market 115,000 units (against 105,000 units in 2014), making the United States the third largest market for electric and hybrid vehicles plug-in, after China (207 000) and Europe (189 000).

In the first half 2016, this market represented 64 000 sales (+ 15% compared to first half 2015). Into these 64 000 units, the BEV market accounts for 35,000 units whereas the PHEV market accounts for 29 000 units.

Also in the first half of 2016, the brand Tesla dominates this market with 18,600 sales, ahead of Chevrolet (11,587), Ford (10 906), BMW (6224), Nissan (5793), Fiat (1983) and Audi (1942). These seven brands represent by themselves 90% of sales of electric vehicles (BEV + PHEV) in the USA. By group, Tesla remains the leader, ahead of GM (12 083) and Ford (10 906).

The ten best-selling models are: Tesla Model S (11,700 sales) Chevrolet Volt (9808), PHEV Ford Fusion (7235), Tesla Model X (6900), Nissan Leaf (5793), Ford C- Max PHEV (3225), BMW i3 (2880), BMW X5 PHEV (2577), Fiat 500e (1983) and Audi A3 e-Tron (1942). These ten models account for 85% of sales of electric vehicles (BEV + PHEV) the USA.

For 2016, Inovev expects a market of 128,000 units, representing a 11.3% increase compared to 2015.
