The Most Produced Car in Spain in 2016
- We have seen in our previous analyses that the VW Golf was the most produced car in Germany (and in Europe) and that the Toyota Yaris was the most produced car in France. What is the most produced car in Spain?
- This is , as for several years, the VW Polo (B segment), The plant in Pamplona (Spain) is the only site that produces this model within the European Union. There is a factory in Russia (Kaluga) which manufactures a sedan version of the Polo but for local demand only. The Polo is also made in China, India, and will even be produced in Algeria from this year on.
- 323,000 VW Polo were manufactured at in Europe in 2016, of which 286,000 were sold in the European Union, where it is the second highest selling model after the VW Golf. At the global level, 601,000 VW Polo were manufactured , of which 550,000 were actually sold, which ranks it fifteenth in terms of sales, but in first place in the B segment. The VW Polo is in its fifth generation since its inception in 1975 and the sixth generation will be launched in 2017 for a lifetime of six or seven years. The Polo will continue to be produced in Pamplona. A SUV variant is expected to be launched a year later, to compete with the Renault Captur, Peugeot 2008, Fiat 500X, Opel Mokka, and Ford Ecosport.
