Chrysler now produces five and a half times more LCVs than PCs in NAFTA
The demand from American, Canadian and Mexican customers is increasingly focused on light trucks (SUVs, pickups and minivans). In the United States, in the first half of 2017, light trucks were 63% of sales, in Canada 67% of sales, and in Mexico 65% of sales.

It is the American manufacturers that sell the most light trucks: GM makes 74% of its sales with this type of vehicle, Ford achieves 76% and Chrysler 86%. These figures mean - compared to the 63% of light truck sales in the United States for all brands - that foreign manufacturers (Japanese, Korean, European) sell far fewer light trucks than their US counterparts and more passenger cars (mostly sedans).

Looking at the production of the Chrysler group between 1950 and 2017, one observes that the production of PC remained in majority until the mid-80s, but after a continuous decline since then, was only 15 % of Chrysler Group's 2016 production in the NAFTA zone while LCVs were 85%. Which means that Chrysler now produces five and a half times more LCV than PC in this area.

At GM and Ford, the proportion of VP produced in the NAFTA zone reached respectively 25% and 25% in 2016. Passenger car production has therefore become a clear minority in the NAFTA zone.
