Inovev forecasts 50,000 new Honda Passports per year
- Honda is relaunching the Passport name, abandoned in 2002, to designate a D-segment SUV, competing with Chevrolet Blazer, Ford Edge, Jeep Cherokee, Hyundai Santa Fe, Kia Sorento or Nissan Snape. It is part of the Honda SUV range between the CRV and the Pilot, and will be marketed mainly in the United States.
- This new SUV completes the Honda SUV line-up, which until now has included HRV, XRV, CRV and Pilot models manufactured largely in North America, the leading market for Honda SUVs.
- In 2018, Honda produced nearly one million SUVs worldwide ( 20% of the manufacturer's production), including 800,000 in North America. Of these 800,000 units, 500,000 are CRVs, one of the best-selling SUVs in the world.
- The new Honda Passport will try to attract a new clientele, more family oriented than the CRV.
- The Passport takes over the platform of the Ridgeline pickup truck, renewed in 2014. It will also be produced in the same plant as the Ridgeline, i.e. at the American site in Lincoln, Alabama.
- The new model is equipped with the 3.5-litre V6 petrol engine mounted on the Ridgeline pickup truck. Its dimensions are as follows: 4.84m long, 2.00m wide and 1.82m high.
- Inovev forecasts a production volume of 50,000 units per year of the new Honda Passport.
