USA sales distribution by model in 2018
- The US market remained stable in 2018 (+0.5% compared to 2017). The top four manufacturers were GM (17.0%), Ford (14.3%), Toyota (14.0%) and Fiat-Chrysler (13.0%), which together accounted for nearly 60% of the market last year.
- Concerning passenger cars, a category in the throes of collapse (only 31% of the US market), Japanese brands are in the top six places, including 2 for Toyota (Camry, Corolla), 2 for Honda (Civic, Accord) and 2 for Nissan (Sentra, Altima), which says a lot about the rout of American manufacturers (GM, Ford, Chrysler) in this category. Seventh place is occupied by a Korean car (Hyundai Elantra), and the Americans are only eighth, ninth and tenth (Ford Fusion, Chevrolet Malibu, Chevrolet Cruze). The Tesla Model 3 was ranked 11th in its first year on the market.
- As for light trucks, a category that is now at 69% of the US market, the three American manufacturers (Ford, GM, Chrysler) manage to keep the top three places, with the Ford F-Series, Chevrolet Silverado and Dodge Ram pickups. On the other hand, Japanese manufacturers have the top three places in the SUV category, including 1 for Toyota (RAV4), 1 for Honda (CRV) and 1 for Nissan (Snape). Chevrolet and Ford are behind with the Equinox, Escape and Explorer. The first minivan is only in the 20th spot : the Dodge Caravan, which is at the end of its life.
