2019 Tokyo Motor Show Focused on Concept Cars
- The Tokyo Motor Show held from October 24 to November 4, 2019 remained as in previous years a show dominated largely by Japanese manufacturers, and as in previous years, the focus was on concept cars. There are 18 concept cars on the 22 main novelties of the show.
- The Volkswagen, BMW and FCA groups have decided not to participate in this event.
- The new products listed by Inovev are:
Mazda MX-30, Honda Jazz, Toyota Yaris, Subaru Levorg ready to be marketed.
- The concept cars are:
Daihatsu Icolco, Daihatsu Tsumutsumu, Daihatsu Waiwai, Daihatsu Wakuwaku, Mitsubishi K-Wagon, Mitsubishi Mi-Tech, Nissan Ariya, Nissan IMK, Subaru BRZ II, Suzuki Every Combi, Suzuki Hanare, Suzuki Hustler, Suzuki Waku Spo, Toyota BEV, Toyota GT86 II, Mirai Toyota, Toyota LQ, Lexus LF-30.
- Of these 18 concept cars, there are 10 midgets (K cars) and 8 models of medium or higher category. The category of micro-vehicles which represent one-third of the Japanese market is therefore overrepresented in this show. The electric versions represent eight models. Surprisingly, SUVs are poorly represented, but it is a constant in Japan. Only five SUVs (including four concept cars) were presented as novelties at the 2019 Tokyo Motor Show.
