Toyota Group Launches First 100% Electric Vehicle
The Toyota group has launched its first mass-produced Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV). The 2019 world's largest carmaker was one of the last major carmaker to not market BEVs. Toyota and its Premium subsidiary Lexus had chosen for the last twenty years to bet initially on hybrid engines vehicles (HEV - thermal engine + electric motor+ small battery), before launching plug-in hybrid vehicles (PHEV). The Toyota group has sold nearly 15 million HEVs since 1997, but the new standards in Europe and the introduction of quotas in China have pushed the Japanese group to enlarge its products with BEVS.

The Lexus UX 300e, which remains aesthetically similar to the Lexus UX Hybrid, is therefore the first mass-produced BEV, not only for the Lexus brand, but also for the Toyota group.

This C-segment SUV derived from the Toyota CHR (TNGA-C platform) aims to compete with the Kia e-Niro, Hyundai Kona EV, Mazda MX30 and MG ZS EV as early as 2020, but also from 2021 in Europe with Peugeot e- 2008, Citroen DS3 Crossback E-Tense, Volvo XC40 EV and Kia Soul EV. It could also compete with the Tesla Model Y SUV which will be marketed from next year.

According to Toyota, the Lexus UX 300e which develops a power of 204ch, would have a range of 300 kilometers according to the WLTP cycle. This model is part of a range of different BEVS that will be launched in the 2020s, including the Toyota CHR Electric.

It can be said today that Toyota has finally taken the path BEVs market, like almost all major international carmakers.
