The evolution of carmakers sales in China over 9 months 2020
Over the nine months of 2020, the results of the numerous carmakers operating on the Chinese market are very mixed, unlike what can be observed in Europe, Japan or the United States. The Chinese market of passenger car and light utility vehicles posted a drop of 9.4% over the period, but nine carmakers managed to achieve positive scores: FAW (+26%), Ford (+21%), Changan(+20%), JMC (+15%), BMW (+11%), Toyota (+8%), Tata Motors (+8%), Daimler (+4%) and QMC (+2%).

These are both Chinese and foreign carmakers, including two Premium ones: BMW and Daimler. Changan's progress is interesting as this carmaker was left behind by Geely as the leading Chinese group several years ago and that it is in the process of making up part of its difference (805,000 sales against 1 005,000 units for Geely).

All the other carmakers decreased, especially PSA (-64%) and FCA (-47%). Sales fell to 34,000 sales for PSA and 28,000 units for FCA over the first nine months of 2020 and the boost of sales of PSA and FCA desired by the management of the two carmakers therefore seems very difficult.

Great Wall (-6%), JAC (-6%), Brilliance (-5%), Honda (-5%), Dongfeng (-4%) are almost stable. And Tesla appears for the first time in the sales figures in 2020 in the Chinese market.
