Toyota Group sold 10.5 million vehicles in 2021
The Toyota group (Toyota, Daihatsu, Lexus, Hino) has published its sales figures for the year 2021. Its worldwide sales amount to 10.5 million units including heavy goods vehicles, which represents an increase 10.1% compared to 2020, which partly offsets the 11.3% drop recorded in 2020 compared to 2019. The group, which remains the world's leading manufacturer ahead of Volkswagen (8.9 million) and Renault- Nissan (7.7 million) is therefore almost back to its 2019 level.

The Toyota group had a better year in 2021 than these two main competitors, no doubt because it is the only one of the three not to have invested in electric motorization, continuing to offer a range of inexpensive vehicles. However, the Japanese manufacturer intends to take the plunge from 2025, since it presented around fifteen prototypes of electric vehicles at the end of 2021 which will be marketed from 2025. By brand, Toyota sold 8,855,145 vehicles, Lexus 760,012, Daihatsu 725 179 and Hino 155 212.

The Toyota Group's global sales in 2021 break down as follows:
§ The United States is its largest market, with 2.33 million vehicles, or 22% of its global sales.
§ Japan becomes its second market, with 2.06 million vehicles, or 20% of its global sales.
§ China is its third largest market, with 1.66 million vehicles, or 16% of its global sales.
§ Europe is its fourth largest market, with 996,000 vehicles, or 9.5% of its global sales.

For the first time, the Toyota group is both the sales leader in the United States and in Japan.
