Inovev forecasts 500,000 units a year of the new Honda Civic
Honda has unveiled the eleventh generation of its C-segment sedan, the Civic, which now reaches 4.55m in length (longer by 3 cm and lower by 3 cm than the old generation), making it one of the longest cars in its segment. The Civic has been one of the brand's two best-selling models for many years (the second being the CRV), which is why its replacement remains crucial.

Produced in seven different countries (mainly in China – for the Chinese market – and in Canada – for the North American market), the Civic saw its production cease in the United Kingdom and Turkey last summer, due in particular to sales which have become rarer from year to year in Europe. The Civic's steady increase in size may not have had the desired effect, especially as the model is getting closer and closer to the Honda Accord marketed in North America, which saw its sales drop by half since 2005. The success of Honda SUVs has undoubtedly caused sales of the Honda Accord and Civic sedans to plummet.

The production volume of the Civic has thus fallen from 765,000 units in 2018 to 620,000 in 2020 and 445,000 in 2021, one of the lowest figures of the decade. The new generation will have to relaunch the career of the model.

The new Civic adopts the hybrid engine of the HRV and CRV on the basis of the 2.0-litre petrol engine. No battery electric version scheduled by 2025. Inovev is counting on 500,000 units per year of the new Civic, this model not being able to return to its former levels, due to competition from SUVs and ever higher prices which could put off a part of the customers.
