Stellantis is closing several of its European factories for several days
- The Stellantis group announced that it would close some of its European factories for several days due to weak sales in Europe which would cause an increase in its stocks.
- Looking at Stellantis' sales figures for Europe (30 countries), the projected decline in 2025 is indeed real, but it is slowing down month by month (-8.8% at the end of June, -8.1% at the end of July, -7.4% at the end of August). However, some brands remain heavily impacted, such as Lancia (-73%), DS (-21%), Fiat (-20%), and Maserati (-18%).
- The Poissy plant will halt production from October 13th to 31st, 2025 (a period of three weeks). This plant, which will produce fewer than 90,000 cars this year, could be permanently closed in 2028 due to the planned discontinuation of the Opel Mokka and DS 3 models currently produced there.
- Other factories in the group will be closed for several days before November, such as Eisenach (Germany), Pomigliano (Italy), Tichy (Poland), Zaragoza (Spain) or Villaverde (Spain).
- All brands seem to be impacted, except for the Peugeot brand whose sales are increasing in Europe by 3.3% at the end of August 2025. Its main sites Sochaux (France), Mulhouse (France), Vigo (Spain) and Kenitra (Morocco) are therefore spared.
- Stellantis' situation is not a unique case in Europe, as the other major European carmaker, Volkswagen, has also announced that it will close some of its European factories for several weeks, such as Zwickau, due to weak sales of electric cars.
