BMW will launch an i1 sedan in 2027
- To complete its range of all-electric hatchbacks, currently composed of the i3 (D segment), i4 (D segment), i5 (E segment) and i7 (F segment), BMW will launch the i1 (C segment) in 2027, based on the current 1 Series, or more likely on a new 1 Series that will adopt the styling of the i3 hatchback and the iX3 SUV, notably the small grille inherited from BMWs of the 1960s. The current BMW 1 Series dates from 2019 and will be eight years old in 2027, although it was restyled in 2024.
- The range of 100% electric sedans will then be complete, although it is entirely conceivable that a launch of an i2 sedan based on the current 2 Series Gran Coupé launched in 2024 could be possible after 2027.
- No technical information has been released regarding the future i1 sedan.
- However, it is interesting to note that the future i1 (and possibly the future i2) will compete with the all-electric Mercedes CLA, Audi A2 E-Tron and Volvo EC40, premium electric cars in the C segment.
- Mercedes could also launch an electric A-Class before 2030, with the EQA SUV planned for 2027 being more of a competitor to the BMW iX1 SUV, which will also be renewed in 2027.
- Audi will occupy a unique position in the C-segment of all-electric vehicles, as its A2 E-Tron will be closer to a compact MPV than a sedan. An Audi A3 E-Tron is not currently planned.
- BMW's product strategy seems more coherent and better suited to European demand.
