Inovev Forecasts 25,000 new Cadillac CT4 per year
- Just a few months after the presentation of the CT5 sedan (which follows the CTS), Cadillac unveils the more compact CT4 sedan (which follows the ATS).
- The CT4 is a 4.65m long D-segment sedan (sub-compact range in the United States), while the CT5 is a 4.92m long E-segment sedan (mid-range in the United States). Above these two sedans, Cadillac has a 5.18m long CT6 in the F segment (full size range in the United States). The CT6 will be discontinued by the GM group because the volume of its sales does not correspond to the targets set by the manufacturer (12,000 sales in 2018).
- After the SUV offensive (XT5 in 2016 and XT4 in 2018), Cadillac decided to replace its CTS (launched in 2013) and ATS (launched in 2012) sedans. The Cadillac CT4 wants to rival Premium D-segment sedans, such as Mercedes C-Class, BMW 3-Series, Audi A4, Volvo S60, Jaguar XE while the CT5 competes against Premium E-segment sedans, such as Mercedes E-Class, BMW 5-Series, Audi A6, Volvo S90, Jaguar XF.
- The Cadillac CT4 shares its GM Alpha platform with the CT5. Both models are manufactured in the same factory in Lansing, Michigan. The CT4 is equipped with the 2.0 turbo gasoline engine mounted on the CT5, but it is not entitled to the 3.0 twin-turbo gasoline V6 reserved for the CT5. As Cadillac's influence in the sedan category has diminished over the years, Inovev expects a maximum of 25,000 units per year of the new CT4.

Audi stops production of TT/TTS

Audi stops production of TT/TTS
- Audi announced that it would stop manufacturing TT/TTS coupés and convertibles in 2021. These sporty C-segment models, based on the Volkswagen Golf and Audi A3 platform, are no longer as successful as in previous years, due to the shift of customers to SUVs in all markets and the announcement of the technological breakthrough that will result from the large-scale marketing of electric models around the world.
- Within the Volkswagen group alone, it is expected that one million electric cars will be sold per year between 2025 and 2030. Of this total, electric Audis will represent a significant quantity, but for the moment the manufacturer has not announced how many different vehicles it intends to launch in this category.
- The Volkswagen brand had already removed its Sirocco coupe from its catalogue in 2018. Between 2008 and 2018, 276,000 copies had been produced. Audi TT/TTS coupés and convertibles sold much more than the Volkswagen Scirocco coupe, selling 680,000 units between 1998 and 2018, with a peak of 57,000 units in 2007. However, sales collapsed between 2015 and 2018, from 38,000 to 18,000 units over this period.
- These Audi TT/TTS models have been manufactured at the Gyor site in Hungary since the beginning .Their manufacture should be stopped in two years. Their replacement is not planned, but Audi reports that an electric model, probably an SUV, would be produced on Gyor's assembly lines in the early 2020s.

Ford confirms end of the Fusion in 2020

Ford confirms end of the Fusion in 2020
- Ford has confirmed that it will discontinue production of its D-segment sedan, the Fusion, in 2020. This sedan, which is at the heart of the sedan market in the United States, with its competitors Toyota Camry, Honda Accord, Nissan Altima, Chevrolet Malibu and Hyundai Sonata, has been losing sales on the American market since 2015, in a general context of declining sedan sales and increasing SUV sales.
- Sales of the Fusion, whose origins date back to 2012, fell from 330,000 units in 2015 to less than 180,000 in 2018 and the first months of 2019 did not show any significant improvement.
- Ford indicates that the Fusion will not be replaced. The manufacturer wants to simplify its product offering on the American market and focus on SUVs and pick-ups. The problem is that with the upcoming disappearance of the Fusion, in addition to the Taurus (E segment), Focus (C segment) and Fiesta (B segment), there will no longer be any Ford sedans at all available on the American market, although this category still accounts for 30% of registrations in this region.
- Ford, like GM and Chrysler, will therefore leave the way clear for Japanese and Korean automakers (and to a lesser extent German automakers) to take over the sedan market. Notwithstanding, there is no indication that in the future, the market will turn around and opt for sedans again, in which case, the American sedan market would be dominated at the outset by foreign brands. The end of the Ford Fusion will coincide with the end of the Ford Mondeo - which is exactly the same car - in Europe.

BMW and Jaguar Land Rover to collaborate in the electric sector

BMW and Jaguar Land Rover to collaborate in the electric sector
- BMW and Jaguar Land Rover have announced that they will jointly develop a new generation of electric motors and components for electric motors, in order to bring advanced vehicles and technologies to market faster, while achieving significant economies of scale.
- BMW currently markets several electric models (i3, i8, iX3) and will launch new ones from next year, such as the i4 and Mini E. In addition, BMW markets several plug-in hybrid models (Series 2, Series 3, Series 5, Series 7, X5, Mini Countryman). All these models totaled 140,000 units in 2018, 6% of BMW worldwide sales.
- For its part, Jaguar Land Rover markets the electric I-Pace, as well as several plug-in hybrid models (Range Rover, Range Rover Sport, Range Rover Evoque). All these models totaled 7,500 units in 2018, or 1.5% of JLR worldwide sales, but 2019 promises to be a much better year thanks to the ramp-up of the Jaguar I-Pace and Range Rover Evoque PHEV. Tata Motors' UK subsidiary is expected to reach 20,000 BEV+PHEV sales in 2019.
- This collaboration between BMW and Jaguar Land Rover creates a link between the two manufacturers that could grow in the coming years. Indeed, we know that Tata Motors' British subsidiary is in financial difficulties and that the PSA group is in the queue to acquire it. BMW, which already owns the British brands Mini and Rolls-Royce, could thus overtake PSA to acquire these two additional British brands, Jaguar and Land Rover.

Inovev forecasts 50,000 new Kia X-Ceed per year

Inovev forecasts 50,000 new Kia X-Ceed per year
- The Kia Ceed (C segment) has made a promising start in Europe (110,000 sales in 2008), but since 2013, sales of this model have stagnated at around 70,000 units, which is 65% of the volume recorded in 2008, despite its renewal in 2018. To boost sales of the model, Kia has decided to multiply the number of bodies of this model.
- After the sedan, station wagon and fastback bodytypes (Proceed), the Korean manufacturer is adding a fourth model (X-Ceed), different from the other three, due to its new four side windows and raised suspension.
- The X-Ceed is not really an SUV, but rather a crossover. It is located above the Stonic and below the Sportage in the manufacturer's catalogue. Given the success of crossovers and SUVs all over the world, it is likely that the X-Ceed will quickly become the best-selling of the Kia Ceed's various variants.
- The X-Ceed mainly targets Mercedes GLA, BMW X2 and Audi Q2. The Korean manufacturer is therefore primarily targeting Premium manufacturers. Among general manufacturers, this type of crossover is rarer, with the exception of the Volkswagen T-Roc or Ford Focus Active, which could be real competitors.
- The X-Ceed will use the engines of the other Kia Ceed, namely the 3 x 120 hp 1.0 petrol cylinders, 4 x 140 hp 1.4 petrol cylinders, 4 x 204 hp 1.6 petrol cylinders and 4 x 136 hp 1.6 diesel cylinders. It will be produced in the same factory in Zilina, Slovakia. Inovev expects 50,000 sales per year of the new X-Ceed, which will only be sold in Europe.
