Inovev forecasts 500,000 units per year of the new Nissan X-Trail
Nissan currently has several SUVs in its range, spread over different segments. Thus the Japanese carmaker markets the Juke (B-segment), the Qashqai (C-segment) known in North America under the name Rogue Sport, the X-Trail (D-segment) known in North America under the name Rogue, the Pathfinder (E-segment) and Murano (E-segment). In certain markets, Nissan also distributes the Kicks (B-segment) and the Terrano(C-segment).

The X-Trail (Rogue) has so far represented the largest production volume with a total of nearly 900,000 units produced in 2017, but sales of the model collapsed in 2019 with only 443,000 copies, which represents a fall of 50% in two years. Such a fall seems to be part of the current difficulties of Nissan. The Japanese carmaker will try to boost sales of the model by replacing it with a new generation that has just been unveiled on the American market, but which will also be marketed in Europe in the same form in a few months.

4 cm shorter than the old generation, the new X-Trail has a 2.5 liter petrol of 180 hp for the American market, but it will use a 1600 diesel of 130 hp and a 2000 diesel of 177 hp on the European market.

The X-Trail will not be produced on the Sunderland (United Kingdom) plant as initially planned, but on the Kyushu (Japan) plant. Inovev forecasts 500,000 units per year of the new X-Trail (including the Rogue). The trend for large SUVs with thermal engines is likely to be declining and the X-Trail will not return to the levels known between 2015 and 2018.
