The US automotive market recorded its sixth consecutive month of decline in June 2017, despite high discounts and a still strong demand for light trucks. The  American big three major  posted contrasting results over the first half:
General Motors sales fell 1.7% (to 1.41 million units) and Fiat-Chrysler's sales were down 6.6% (to 1.07 million units), while those of Ford -who temporarily occupied the position of leader of the US market in May- declined by 3.8% (to 1.29 million units).

Inovev predicts sales of 75 000 et 100 000 per year for the new Hyundai Kona
The Korean manufacturer Hyundai has unveiled its segment B SUV, the Kona, which is expected to gradually replace the B-segment MPV, the iX20, whose origins go back to 2010. Indeed, manufacturers are increasingly replacing their B segment compact MPVs by B segment SUVs, in response to the  sharply declining demand for  compact MPVs and the strongly  growing  demand for compact SUVs.

Thus, we saw Renault replace the Modus by the Captur SUV, Opel replace the Meriva by the CrosslandSUV,or Citroën replace the C3 Picasso by the C3 Aircross SUV . Peugeot replaced its 207 estate with the 2008  and Seat replaced its Altea with the Ateca SUV. Hyundai is  following  the same logic.

The new Kona, considering  its dimensions (length: 4.16m), competes directly with the Renault Captur (4,12m), Peugeot 2008 (4,16m) and Nissan Juke (4,14m). It measures 4cm more than a Hyundai iX 20 and 32cm less than a Hyundai Tucson.

The engines of the Kona are the following: a 3-cylinder gasoline 1.0 / 120hp, a 4 cylinders gasoline  1.6 / 177hp and a diesel  1.6 of 115hp and 135hp.

For now, the Kona is made in Korea but may eventually replace the iX20 at the Hyundai site in Nosovice (Czech Republic). Inovev expects a volume of 75,000 to 100,000 sales a year in Europe. In Korea, Hyundai plans to sell 50,000 Kona a year.

Lamborghini plans to double sales with their new SUV
The Brazilian automotive market (PC+LCV) has increased , after four years of uninterrupted decline. It has been positive since March 2017 and growth has accelerated since then. In  2016 there was already  some improvement over 2015, as the market, while continuing to decline, did so less, month over month (+16,8% in May 2017).

The Italian firm Lamborghini, which has been producing very sporty cars since its creation in 1963, had several owners before being bought in 1998 by German Audi (Volkswagen Group).

The current range of Lamborghini which includes two different size coupes, the Huracan and the Aventador (3,500 total sales in 2016), will host a third: the  Urus model in the spring of 2018. This model will be a SUV that will use the same platform as the Volkswagen Touareg, Audi Q7, Porsche Cayenne and Bentley Bentayga.

The Italian firm has resolved to add a  SUV to its range because of the strong demand for this type of model, all over the world. Even sports-oriented brands, such as Alfa-Romeo, Maserati or Aston-Martin, are marketing or preparing to market an SUV.

The Urus will be manufactured in the Lamborghini factory of Sant'Agata Bolognese, where the Huracan and Aventador are manufactured today . The firm expects to sell 1,000 Urus in 2018 and 3,500 in 2019 and the following years, so that this model will help Lamborghini double its sales between 2016 and 2019.

The Urus should be powered by a V8 turbo petrol, while the Huracan is equipped with a V10 and the Aventador  a V12. There will be no diesel on the Urus, but a rechargeable gasoline hybrid version is  planned for the fall of 2019.

Inovev predicts production per year at 70 000 for the new Citroën C3 Aircross
Citroën unveiled its SUV segment B, the C3 Aircross, which replaces the segment B minivan, the C3 Picasso whose origins go back to 2009.

This model shares its platform (PF1) and its engines with the brand new Opel Crossland SUV marketed in recent weeks.

- The engines of the new Citroën SUV are the following: a gasoline version  of 110hp and 130hp and a 1.6 diesel of 100hp and 120hp. The diesel engine will be replaced as of  the fall of 2018 by the new 1.5 of the same hp , which equips the Peugeot 308 facelift.

With a length of 4.15m, the Citroën C3 Aircross competes with the Renault Captur (4,12m), Peugeot 2008 (4.16m), Nissan Juke (4,14m) and the all-new Hyundai Kona (4.16m).

- The Citroën C3 Aircross will be manufactured in the same factory as the Opel Crossland in Zaragoza, alongside Opel Corsa and Mokka (half of the Mokka sold in Europe is made in Zaragoza and the other half in GM Korea in Korea).

Inovev expects 70,000 C3 Aircross to be produced each year in Zaragoza, the vast majority of which are sold in Europe. The model will be marketed in China in the fall of 2018.

VW’s Skoda Citigo et Seat Mii will be discontinued
The Volkswagen Group has been marketing a A segment sedans under their three brands: Volkswagen (Up), Skoda (Citigo) and Seat (Mii) since 2011. However, the success of these models remains very relative (172,000 sales in 2016, of which 114,000 Up, 37,000 Citigo and 21,000 Mii).

This is why the Volkswagen group decided not to replace the Citigo and Mii who are in  the second half of their series life (they were restyled  in 2016).

The German carmaker says it wants to focus on the launch of the future small SUVs Skoda (name unknown) and Seat (Arona) on the high growth B segment SUV market.

According to the manufacturer, sales of these future small SUVs are expected to be two to three times higher than those of the Citigo and Mii, from 75,000 to 100,000 for the Skoda model positioned below the Karoq (C segment) and 40,000 to 60,000 for the Seat model located below the Ateca (C segment).

As far as the Volkswagen Up is concerned, it should be replaced (around 2020), even if a segment B SUV is now about to be launched under the VW brand (known as T-Roc). This small SUV (4.23m long) should be manufactured at the Volkswagen site in Portugal (Palmela) from the fourth quarter of 2017.
