Inovev predicts production of 150,000 units per year of the new Lexus ES
The Toyota Group will replace the Lexus GS sedan (E-segment) with the Lexus ES, which has been on the North American market for six generations. This seventh generation will therefore be sold not only on the North American market but also on other world markets, such as ,for example, the European market. The Lexus ES is traditionally derived from the Toyota Camry (E-segment), which was renewed earlier this year and is also sold primarily in the North American market.

The new Lexus ES therefore takes the body style of the recent Camry. It replaces the Lexus GS, which has never been commercially successful since its launch in 1993. Compared to the GS, the ES moves from rear wheel drive to front wheel drive ( part of the legacy of the Camry) and shares its TNGA modular platform with the recent Toyota Camry, Toyota Auris, Toyota CHR, Lexus UX and Lexus LS. The Lexus ES competes with the Mercedes E-Class, BMW 5-Series, Audi A6 and Volvo S90.

The Lexus ES is equipped with a hybrid engine (2.5-liter petrol + electric motor) developing a total of 218 hp. It fits in the Lexus range between the IS sedan (D segment) and the LS sedan (F segment). It will be produced, as today, on the US site of Georgetown (Washington State) and on the Japanese site of Tsutsumi

Inovev forecasts production of 150,000 units a year, split between US and Japanese sites.
