Inovev plans 150,000 units per year of the Toyota Yaris Cross
- Toyota recently unveiled the SUV version of its Yaris sedan launched earlier this year: the Yaris Cross. This new model will be marketed in Europe from summer 2021 but has already started in Japan, where it is produced at the local Ohira plant. For the European market, the Yaris Cross will be produced at the French plant of Onnaing, near Valenciennes, alongside the Yaris sedan which does not share any body parts with the Yaris Cross. This decision made necessary an increase of the French plant production capacity, which will now be able to produce up to 300,000 vehicles per year, half of which are Yaris and the other half are Yaris Cross.
- The Toyota Yaris Cross will be available in thermal and hybrid versions, in both cases it will be a three-cylinder 1.5 petrol engine. In addition, the carmaker will leave the choice between a version with two-wheel drive (at the front) and a four-wheel drive. A battery electric (BEV) version is not planned.
- In Toyota's European product range, the Yaris Cross is marketed as a B-segment SUV, competing with the Renault Captur, Peugeot 2008, Opel Mokka, Volkswagen T-Cross, Skoda Kamiq, Seat Arona, Ford Puma and Fiat 500X.
- At 4.18 m long, it is 8 cm shorter than the Toyota CHR and 23 cm longer than the Yaris sedan. Actually, the Yaris Cross should take more customers to the CHR than the Yaris, given its positioning. The CHR benefits however from more powerful engines (1.8 and 2.0 hybrids). The price of the Yaris Cross should be between those of the Yaris (€ 20,000) and the CHR (€ 30,000).
