Inovev forecasts 100,000 units per year of the new Hyundai Bayon
Hyundai has unveiled a new compact SUV (B-segment), named Bayonand derived from the Hyundai i20 sedan which will be produced in the same plant in Turkey from this year and which will be sold exclusively in Europe.

This SUV will do a bit of duplication with the Hyundai Kona which is available in thermal, plug-in hybrid and battery electric versions, while the Bayon will only be equipped with gasoline engines, as the i20 sedan: a 3-cylinder 1.0l displacement and a 4-cylinder 1.25l displacement, with three different powers (85 hp, 100 hp and 120 hp).

It is therefore – according to these characteristics - more a replacement of the small B-segment MPV, the iX20, which was produced between 2010 and 2019. In total, the Hyundai iX20 was sold at 365,000 units, mostly in Europe. The Bayon will have to take over this market.

The dimensions of the Bayon SUV are: 4.18 m long, 1.78 m wide, 1.50 m high. Compared to the i20 sedan, it is 14cm longer and 5cm taller, while maintaining the same width. The Hyundai Bayon will compete with the B-segment SUVs, namely the Renault Captur, Peugeot 2008, Citroën C3 Aircross, Ford Puma, Opel Crossland, Opel Mokka, Volkswagen T-Cross, Volkswagen T-Roc, Nissan Juke, Seat Arona , Skoda Kamiq, Suzuki Vitara. In terms of price, it is at the level of the Citroën C3 Aircross and Opel Crossland. The Hyundai Bayon will try to revive the activity of the Turkish plant in Izmit, which suffered from the drop in production of the i20 sedan. Inovev expects 100,000 Bayon sales per year, from 2022.
