Where are Stellantis battery electric vehicles produced?
- Volkswagen has announced that it wants to produce 700,000 battery electric vehicles (BEVs) per year at five different assembly plants in Germany by 2030, in addition to the 500,000 BEVs per year at the Martorell plant in Spain. On its side, Renault has announced that it wants to produce 400,000 BEVs per year at the Douai plant in France, in addition to the 100,000 BEVs per year at the Maubeuge plant in France. What about the Stellantis group's strategy regarding BEV production location?
- The current production of Stellantis BEVs is spread all over Europe and it is possible that it will remain the case for several years. Indeed, Stellantis BEVs are directly derived from primarily combustion engine vehicles and therefore share the same platforms, which are then adapted for electric versions. These versions are assembled at the same plant where the thermal versions of these models are produced.
- Thus, the e-Corsa is produced where the Corsa is produced, in Zaragoza (Spain); the e-208 where the 208 is produced, in Trnava (Slovakia); the e-2008 where the 2008 is produced, in Vigo (Spain); the e-C4 where the C4 is produced, in Villaverde (Spain); the e-Mokka where the Mokka is produced, in Poissy (France); the DS3 Crossback E-Tense where the DS3 Crossback, in Poissy (France), etc ...
- On the other hand, some models, like the Fiat e-500, are assembled at specific plants. And the Stellantis group has announced that the Ellesmere Port site will become in 2022 a site dedicated to the production of Citroën e-Berlingo, Peugeot e-Partner, Opel e-Combo and Toyota e-ProAce City. It is therefore not impossible that in the future, with the full electrification of certain Stellantis brands, plants may become dedicated to the production of battery electric vehicles, but not before 2024.
