The Spanish market shrinks by 31.7% in 2021 compared to 2019
The Spanish automotive market (passenger cars) remained at a very low level in 2021 compared to 2019 (-31.7%), a level which remains very slightly higher compared to 2020 (+ 1.0%). In total, Spain registered 859,477 passenger cars last year, up from 851,211 in 2020 and 1,258,260 in 2019. This is the lowest figure since 2014, after 2020.

The reasons given for this very low level of registrations in 2021 relate to the lack of supply of the semiconductors that automakers need to make their cars marketable.

But it could be that the sharp increase in the average price of cars as well as a wait-and-see attitude from customers on electric vehicles may slow down purchases and encourage potential customers to keep their vehicles longer.

The ranking by brand shows that Seat remains the market leader (81,613 units), ahead of Peugeot (67,266 units), Toyota (62,329 units), Volkswagen (61,724 units), Hyundai (57,508 units) and Kia (57,235 units). units).

By groups, Volkswagen is the Spanish market leader in 2021 (206,931 units) thanks to its Spanish subsidiary Seat, ahead of Stellantis (192,529 units), Renault-Nissan (118,346 units) and Hyundai-Kia (114,743 units).

The best-selling models were Seat Arona (20,053 units), Hyundai Tucson (18,835 units), Dacia Sandero (18,252 units), Peugeot 2008 (17,163 units), Seat Leon (15,917 units) ) and the Toyota Corolla (15,372 units).
