Global car production from a Chinese perspective
While in the ranking of the world's leading automakers from a Western perspective – that is, integrating Western vehicles produced under license by Chinese manufacturers into the production of Western manufacturers – the leading Chinese manufacturer appears in twelfth place (this is Geely, which does not produce foreign vehicles under license), ahead of Changan (13th) and Great Wall (14th).

In the ranking from the Chinese point of view – which Inovev makes every year – the first Chinese manufacturer is in sixth position, it is SAIC which produces many models of the Volkswagen and GM groups under license. SAIC produced 5.29 million vehicles of all brands, trailing the Volkswagen group, from which the vehicles produced by SAIC are removed here. The second Chinese manufacturer is FAW (7th overall, with 3.94 million units) which produces models from the Volkswagen and Toyota groups. Dongfeng (DFM) is the third Chinese manufacturer (10th overall, with 3.28 million units) which produces Nissan, Kia, Honda, Peugeot, Citroën… and Dacia Spring.

The general ranking is slightly different, because the Volkswagen group is 5th and the GM group is 8th (instead of 2nd and 6th respectively) these two manufacturers being those who produce the most in joint venture in China. The main leaders remain Toyota (1st global manufacturer), Renault-Nissan (2nd), Hyundai-Kia (3rd) and Stellantis (4th).
