GM is bringing the Cadillac CT4 and CT5 back into production in the US
- We saw in a previous Auto-Analyse (2022-07) that the General Motors group, driven by customer demand, had put the mid-range Chevrolet Malibu sedan back into production, which opposes the Toyota Camry, Honda Accord and Nissan Altima which tended to corner the US sedan market after GM and Ford withdrew from that specific market.
- The Chevrolet Malibu has regained its monthly sales rate of the recent past, that is to say a rate of 10,000 to 13,000 units per month (i.e. 120,000 to 150,000 per year), demonstrating that the discontinuation of the Malibu in 2021 had been a mistake. Another Chevrolet sedan is produced in the United States, it is the 100% electric Bolt, but in much smaller quantities (2,000 to 4,000 per month).
- Finally, we must mention the Cadillac CT4 and CT5 which represent the Premium category of American sedans, but whose sales remain very low (less than 2,000 per month for the CT4 and less than 3,000 per month for the CT5) and which also had to be put back into production from the fall of 2021, following the request of a certain clientele.
- The Cadillac CT4 and CT5 survive while the CT6 has disappeared, along with competing Lincoln sedans from the Ford group, and while the days of the Chrysler 300 from the Stellantis group are numbered.
- Among the rare American sedans still in production among the Big Three, the Dodge Charger is still the most produced in 2021 (90,000 units) but for how long? Fortunately, the American auto industry still has a sedan produced at more than 500,000 units a year: the Tesla Model 3.
