Inovev forecasts 130,000 units per year in Europe of the VW ID7
Volkswagen has just unveiled its new battery electric sedan ID7 (D-segment) in April 2023. This model should replace the Passat sedan which has just been removed from VW product range. An ID7 break is planned for next year, which should replace the Passat break still available (at a price of 43,000 to 55,000 euros).

The ID7 completes Volkswagen's electric range, which until now is built around the ID3, ID4, ID5, ID6 and ID Buzz. All these models are based on the MEB platform of the Volkswagen group (Volkswagen, Audi, Skoda, Seat, Cupra, Porsche, Bentley, Lamborghini) which is also used by Ford Europe for its range of electric cars under development.

The ID7 receives a 210 kW electric motor and an 85 kWh battery pack which would allow it a range of 700 kilometers according to the WLTP cycle. A more affordable version with a 77 kWh battery would allow a range of 600 kilometers.

The ID7 is a rival of the Tesla Model 3 but will achieve production volumes probably much lower than those of the Californian electric car. In 2022, 547,000 units of the Tesla Model 3 were produced (compared to 531,000 in 2021 and 404,000 in 2020), while Inovev expects 50,000 ID7s produced at the German site in Emden in 2025 and 130,000 in 2030.

But it is likely that Volkswagen will decide to produce the ID7 in China and the United States in the short term, which could double its production volume. Everything will depend on the price of the ID7 which according to Inovev could be in a range between 60,000 and 70,000 euros if we refer to the prices charged by the carmaker for the ID4, ID5 and ID6. The Passat was priced 40,000 to 50,000 euros.
