Fiat verlängert unerklärlicherweise die Punto-Laufbahn in Europa,
- The current generation of the Fiat Punto was born in 2005, on a common GM-Fiat platform, the same as for the Opel Corsa which was launched in 2006 and which was replaced in 2014.
- Generally, the life cycle of a European B-segment model is 7 to 8 years on average (the Volkswagen Polo was launched in 2009 and was renewed in 2017, the Peugeot 208 was launched in 2011 and will be renewed in 2019, the current Renault Clio was launched in 2012 and will be renewed in 2019). But the Fiat Punto will begin its 13th year in 2018 ...
- From 450,000 sales recorded in Europe in 2006, the Fiat Punto fell to 300,000 sales in 2009, then 150,000 sales in 2012 and 50,000 sales only in 2017.
- Rather than replace it with a B-segment sedan, the FCA group let the Punto die slowly and preferred to launch the 500L minivan in 2012 and then the 500X mini-SUV in 2014, whose dimensions and interior space are close to those of the Punto, but meaning that FCA group has no model to compete with the Volkswagen Polo, Ford Fiesta, Opel Corsa, Renault Clio, Peugeot 208 and Citroen C3.. The Italian manufacturer seems to be content with his Panda and 500 in the A segment and his Tipo in the C segment. One may wonder if FCA really wants to replace the B-segment Punto as announced a few years ago, because this replacement seems to be constantly postponed.
