Comparison of PC bodies in the six main European markets

Inovev has analysed the PC breakdown by body (all segments) in the six main European markets (Germany, UK, France, Italy, Spain and Belgium). It shows that in 2014 Sedans remained predominate on these six markets, and is still ahead of SUVs and MPVs, although the gap between Sedans and SUVs getting thinner and thinner each year. There is a real similarity in these six markets regarding the body breakdown, although Sedans are especially predominant in England (where the share of company cars is the largest), ahead of Germany (67% sales), Spain and Italy (66% of sales), Belgium (62% of sales) and France (61% of sales).

The average share of Sedan sales in the six main markets (which account for over 77% of sales from Europe 29 countries) is equal to 66%, which represents two out of three vehicles. This proportion has declined significantly in 10 years.

In 2014, SUVs account for 20% of the European market, 23% in France where they are most present in proportion (mainly due to the success of Renault Captur and Peugeot 2008), 21% in Spain and Italy, 20% in England and Belgium and only 18% in Germany.

As for the MPV, they represent 11% of the European market, with 13% in France, Belgium and Spain, 11% in Germany and Italy and only 8% in England. The sales transfer between SUV and MPV was the most significant in France.

As for PC derivatives of light utility vehicles (Microvan), they account for only 2% of the European market.
