The Renault plant in Oran is increasing its capacity

Six months after its launch, the Renault plant in Oran announced the doubling of its production capacity in order to produce the Renault Symbol (a Dacia Logan rebadged with the Renault name) for the local market.

This second ramp up will enable the plant to reach a production capacity of 25 000 vehicles per year and thus help the success of the Symbol in the Algerian market (the plant will not export any vehicles before 2020).

In 2014, 13 200 Renault Symbol were sold in Algeria, as the model came from the Renault factory in Bursa, Turkey. Now that Algeria assembles for the local market, demand for this model will automatically increase. Sales may reach 20 000 to 25 000 units in 2015. It can also be noted that Renault also sold 24 500 Dacia Logan in Algeria in 2014.

Since the Dacia Logan and Renault Symbol are actually the same model with two different logos, it is very likely that demand will intensify for the Symbol while it will decrease for the Logan.

Renault therefore expects a production of 25 000 Symbol in 2015, 45 000 in 2016, 55 000 in 2017, 65 000 in 2018 and 75 000 in 2019. Renault expects to export the Symbol from 2019, which suggests that in that year, 75 000 Symbol will be sold in Algeria, while the total Renault Symbol / Dacia Logan sold in 2014 stood at less than 38 000 units. Despite changes in the Algerian market, long term growth should help achieve this target.
