- Mainstream producers have mostly abandoned segment E to focus on a segment that we could call "D +", which is actually a D segment whose dimensions and services cover the segments D and E. The market from mainstream producers of sedans from segments D / E (thus "D +") in 2014 are slightly higher than 2008 levels (5.4 million units against 5.2 million) after strong growth between 2009 and 2014 (+28 , 6%), the global market has increased by 28% over this period.
- The global market share of the Renault brand in this segment was 2.5% in 2005 and gradually decreased to 0.25% in 2014, i.e. ten times less. It should be noted that Renault is mainly present in Europe in this segment.
- In an attempt to return to this market, Renault has launched the Talisman sedan, which replaces the Laguna (segment D) and the Latitude (segment E). The Talisman will compete in the market of large mainstream sedans like the Volkswagen Passat, Ford Mondeo, Opel Insignia, Peugeot 508 and Citroën C5 and the Skoda Superb, Hyundai i40 and Kia Optima. Inovev expects nearly 50 000 annual sales of the Talisman, not counting those that will be produced later in China for the local market.
- It is expected to be marketed in November 2015, its production being focused on the Douai plant, alongside the recent Espace that shares the same platform, ie CMF-C / D. The new Renault Talisman has a length of 4,85m (+ 15cm compared to the Laguna and -5cm compared to the Latitude). The engines available on the Talisman will initially be those of the Espace, ie a TEC 1600cc petrol engine (150hp and 200hp) and a 1600cc diesel engine DCI (110hp to 160hp).
