Assessment of French production (PC+UV) for the first six months of 2015

In first half 2015, car production (PC + UV) in France grew by 3.5% compared to the same period last year. It is interesting to see that light utility vehicles is the segment that made French production increase, with an increase of 49% to 265 000 units, while passenger cars were down 6.4% to 770 000 units.

Indeed, it is primarily thanks to the relocating the Renault Trafic (45 000 units produced in the first half of 2015) back from the United Kingdom to France that the production of UVs in France increased. Production of other utility vehicles also benefited from the improved market but also benefited from agreements between manufacturers (Mercedes and Renault, PSA and Toyota, Opel and Renault ...). So the Renault Master increased by 21% to 53 000 units, the Peugeot Expert increased by 67.4% to 23 000 units, the Mercedes Citan 54% to 21 000 units, the Citroen Jumpy by almost 65% to 20 000 units.

For passenger cars, the Peugeot 308 is the most produced car in France in the first half of the year, with an increase of 33% (reaching 117 000 units) while the Toyota Yaris was down 6% (to 112 000 units). The Peugeot 2008 continues to grow, with a 10% increase of its production (reaching almost 100 000 units).

Despite the progress of these two flagship models (308 and 2008), PSA has seen its production levels decline by 2.8% to 521 000 units. It is in fact due to Citroën's production decline (-13.8% to 130 000 units), while Peugeot rose 4.3% (to 348 000 units). The C3 (-19% to 66 000 units) and C4 models (-19.5% to 36 500 units) are reaching the end of their life cycle. For its part the Renault-Nissan Group rose by 16.5% to 295 000 units, Daimler rose by 10% to 60 500 units, while Toyota declined by 3% to 118 000 units.
