Assessment of UK sales (PC+UV) for the first six months of 2015

 

In the first half of 2015, the British market (PC+UV) grew by 8.1% to 1.55 million units. As for Germany, France and Europe in general, sales of commercial vehicles have progressed well (+ 20% reaching 182 400 units), and that of passenger cars grew by 6.7% (1.38 million units).

By segment, solid growth is recorded for segment D (+ 24.5% reaching 205 000 units). Only segments A (-3.3% decreasing to 125 700 units) and E (-1.8% decreasing to 78 800 units) are down. By body, like other European countries, sales of SUV are still progressing (+ 24.9% reaching 325 300 units) at the expense of the MPV category (-25.8% decreasing to 80 500 units).

By brand, Ford, is the leading brand in the country and increased by 6.2% to almost 224 000 units. The brand benefited from the growth of the Kuga SUV (+44.8% reaching 16 600 units) and the launch of the Ecosport (4 100 units). Furthermore, the Transit Custom also rose sharply (+25.2% to 36 000 units), making it the fifth best-selling vehicle in the United Kingdom, regardless as to whether they are PC or UV , this is something quite unusual in a mature market. Overall, all brands grew, apart from Honda (-7.6% decreasing to 27 600 units), Suzuki (-10.3% decreasing to 17 700 units) and DS (-26.3% reaching less than 10 000 units). These three brands are awaiting new developments that are expected to arrive in the second half of the year or early 2016.

By model, sales of the Ford Fiesta were almost stable (-1% decreasing to 71 200 units), while the new version of the Opel / Vauxhall Corsa increased by 19% to nearly 52 000 units.
