Overview of the European (29 countries) Passenger Car market in 2015

 

The European passenger car market (29 countries) increased by 9.2% in 2015, reaching a volume of 14.2 million units. This is the second year of growth after the fall of 2013 (12 million units). The year 2014 already reached 13 million units, but the growth is now even stronger in 2015. It is gradually approaching a market of 14.5 million units, which is the average European market volume recorded over the past twenty years. But we are still far from pre-crisis levels (16 million in 2007).

Segment C is predominant in Europe (34.6%) ahead of segment B (31.8%). By body type, sedans still are far ahead of SUV (59% against 21%), but they grew (+ 2%), while sedans fell behind (-2%).

The Volkswagen group (24.8% market share, + 6.2%) is the European market leader, far ahead of the Renault-Nissan group (13.5% market share, +11.7%). The largest increases were recorded for Premium carmakers, Korean carmakers, FCA and Renault-Nissan groups.

The ten best-selling models in 2015 are: VW Golf (595 685 units), Ford Fiesta (303 170), VW Polo (291 024), Renault Clio (286 192), Opel Corsa (256 355), Peugeot 208 (223 380), VW Passat (216 806), Nissan Qashqai (215 320), Ford Focus (214,851) and Audi A3 (192,263). The Volkswagen group ranked four models in the top 10.
