VW will build an assembly plant in Algeria
- The Algerian government has set quotas for imports of new vehicles in 2016 to 67,000 passenger cars and 85,000 light commercial vehicles (a total of 152,000 vehicles). With an expected production of 40,000 to 50,000 passenger cars in Oran this year, all for the local market, we can estimate the Algerian market to 110,000 passenger cars approximately, to which must be added 85,000 imported light commercial vehicles (no commercial vehicles Is currently manufactured in Algeria). This policy of restricting imports is intended to promote the industrial implantation of international manufacturers in a country that has purchased up to 437,000 vehicles in 2012.
- The Renault group has been the first manufacturer to establish a factory in Algeria in 2014. It has been the leader of sales in this country for many years (92,000 sales in 2014 and 90,000 in 2015). The Oran plant is currently manufacturing Renault Symbol (Logan) and Sandero.
- The Hyundai-Kia Group has just started production at the Tahkout plant in Tiaret. The group sold 65,000 cars in Algeria in 2014 and 47,000 in 2015.
