Inovev predicts 200 000 units sales for the future Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross
- The Japanese Mitsubishi brand, which has been part of the Renault-Nissan group since the end of last year, has introduced a new segment C SUV at the very recent Geneva Motor Show.
- This model, called Eclipse Cross (Eclipse was a name used by Mitsubishi to designate a sporty coupe between 1989 and 2012), is expected to gradually replace the ASX SUV in the same category which is now seven years old, which is the life cycle for most models marketed in mature markets. In terms of dimensions, the Eclipse Cross (4.40m in length) fits into the Mitsubishi range between the C segment ASX (4.30m) and the D segment Outlander (4.70m) . It takes up the platform of these two older models, and according to Inovev, it will be the last Mitsubishi SUV to be built on a Mitsubishi platform. Indeed, the next SUV of the brand should be built on the Renault-Nissan platform (CMF) used on the Kadjar and Qashqai. Future Mitsubishi sedans should also be gradually moved to Renault-Nissan platforms. It has also already been announced that the future Mitsubishi L200 pickup will be on the same platform as Nissan Navara, Renault Alaskan, and Mercedes X-Class. The Eclipse Cross is equipped with a 1.5 petrol engine and a 2.2 diesel engine.
- Inovev expects a volume of 150,000 to 200,000 worldwide Eclipse Cross sales over a full year.
